• Delays/cancellations/damages: Hornet’s site doesn’t spell out a cancellation fee schedule; call to confirm if you’re juggling dates. For damages, North Carolina requires movers to offer basic value protection, and Hornet lists basic included with full value available at cost. That means claims are possible, but note they do not publish a claims ratio (few small movers do).

My verdict: Yes – if you like control and plan well.

On my weekday two-bedroom test, the crew showed up on time with the right protection gear, called out an iffy dresser leg before loading, and moved efficiently once we dialed in the load order. Billing ticked by the minute, so when I decided to add six wardrobe boxes and have them protect a few pieces I was going to DIY, I could literally see how that choice added time. Where Hornet won’t fit: if you need a fixed, binding estimate down to the dollar, hourly will stress you out. In North Carolina, the Utilities Commission (NCUC) regulates moves within the state. Movers must hold an active NCUC certificate, follow the Maximum Rate Tariff (hourly rules, forms, valuation), and provide the consumer “Rights and Responsibilities” booklet. If any mover won’t show proof of certification, walk away.
